The BOSTON LYKEION ELLINIDON is hosting the upcoming program, “An Indelible Memory: Commemorating the Greeks of Asia Minor” on November 11-13, 2022.

This year, 100 years after the destruction of the beautiful cosmopolitan city of Smyrna in 1922, the Boston Lykeion Ellinidon will commemorate the survival and perseverance of the Hellenic peoples of Asia Minor. With a 3-day event on November 11-13, we will recall and focus on the legacy of the unique culture of Asia Minor. Come and enjoy the beautiful sounds of Anatolian music, join in traditional dances of the region, and hear speakers' presentations on what is being remembered and preserved here in America. Gather your “parea” and join in celebrating the vibrant, lasting culture of Asia Minor!

Events will be held at the Taxiarchae Church, Watertown, MA

     Cost for Dance Seminars, the Speaker Series, and the Glendi Dinner  INCLUSIVE-- $175.
                       Cost for the Speaker Series only on Saturday evening -- $20.
                       Cost for the Glendi Dinner only on Sunday evening -- $60.

     Friday, November 11th,     7:00 p.m.  “Meet and Greet” for dance conference attendees

     Saturday, November 12th
      --Dance Workshop Session I  9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
         Dances of Asia Minor by Dance instructor Andreas Papoukidis of the Voreades dance troupe of 
         Thessaloniki, Greece.           
         The workshops will be accompanied by live music by Georgos Psaltis.
      Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, Watertown, MA

      --Cultural & historical speaker series 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
        Greetings by Consul General of Greece in Boston Symeon Tegos
        Presentations by Researchers Mary Papoutsy, George Makredes and  Andreas Papoukidis 

 

 
  ***Mary Papoutsy of Rye, New Hampshire will speak on “Journeys of Mikrasiatisses to New Lands”.
     ***George Makredes of Somerville, Massachusetts will speak on "New Land, New Life"  
           focusing on the refugee immigration from Asia Minor to Somerville, Massachusetts"
     ***Andreas Papoukidis will offer an important cultural presentation showcasing traditional regional attire and the musical style of Asia Minor.

     --Memorial Service and Artoklasia 10:00 a.m..                             
     --Dance Workshop Session II  1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
