Ilia: Challenging the boundaries of European Networking

Παρασκευή, 26 Αυγούστου, 2016

Georgina Cooper, in collaboration with Vaso Charitopoulou

EUROPEAN UNION, “DIONE”
To be a part of active citizenship and gain further knowledge of participation in the democratic life of the European Union, “Dione” Local Development Centre in Ancient Olympia, Greece, in collaboration with “LittleBig Cards” fromKent,UK, met with other European organisations and stakeholders in Veliko Tarnovo,Bulgaria from the 9th to the 16th of August 2016.
Taking part in the ‘Under Construction! -European youth citizenship” youth exchange, the representative of Ilia region on behalf of “Dione” and founder of “LittleBig Cards” Georgina Cooper, met youth workers and volunteers from: Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Czech Republic and Cyprus. This exchange contributed greatly towards the understanding of the European Union and also allowed like-minded participants to consider joining or building Erasmus projects with “Dione” in Ilia,Greece, and “The Creative Collective” in the hometown of the “LittleBig Cards” owner,Ashford,Kent.
The exchange focused on Active Citizenship and how it is more than taking part in charity activities, voting at elections or volunteering. It gave active European citizenship its full content and scope, and downsized the gap between citizens and the European institutions. The project gave a great insight into how a YouthPass works and how projects can be made.
Visiting the major and also an orphanage of Veliko Tarnovo were two very insightful and good examples of the attributes for European funding. The major discussed projects that involved litter and recycling and the orphanage showed the history or their agricultural techniques.
For the duration of the exchange, activities were scheduled that contributed to teambuilding, problem solving, cultural differences and European Citizenship.
In the following weeks, meetings will be set between Erasmus interns of “Dione” and “LittleBig Cards” to continue to structure Erasmus projects that can be released in the near future in Ilea.
