Dr. Mendoni in her speech
will discuss, among other topics, the 270 or so new archaeological sites
uncovered and 250 cultural projects implemented in the three administrative
regions of Macedonia in the past decade. Basic conditions have been created for
the protection and promotion of important archaeological sites and monuments of
all historical periods, from prehistoric settlements, to cities of classical
antiquity, the leading cities of the Macedonian kingdom and the Roman Empire, as
well as the unique monuments of Byzantine period.
Dr. Medoni will suggest that cultural monuments can be a key driver for economic prosperity and development. "The cultural heritage of Greece and especially of Macedonia," says Dr. Mendoni, "enable us to promote development in the field of cultural tourism as well as facilitating the regeneration of urban centers and revitalization of remote mountain regions by helping to stimulate the labor market and to eliminate socioeconomic inequalities."
