ATHENS, Greece

An Athens court is declaring a strike by customs officers illegal and the government says it expects them to return to work Sunday.

"The decision will be transmitted today to the customs officers, who must return to work tomorrow," a Ministry of Finance announcement said Saturday.

The strikers have called a meeting of their executive Sunday to decide what course to take.

The strike, which began Tuesday and which the customs officers wanted to extend to next Wednesday, has caused fuel shortages and disrupted imports and exports as goods pile up in ports.

Fuel shortages eased Friday, when customs officers in northern Greece and Crete returned to work.
